Caring for your candles.

When it comes down to it, the performance of your candle heavily depends on it being properly cared for. Read below for some helpful tips to ensure that you get the most out of each candle!

Wicks

Trim your wicks to 1/4" BEFORE burning each time you go to light your candle. Wick cutters can be found through various vendors (I bought my current wick cutter from Amazon).

Why does my candle look bumpy after burning and allowing wax to cool?

This is actually completely normal for a soy wax candle! This happens simply because the wax in the melt pool cooled and hardened at an inconsistent rate, which is a sign that your candle is made from 100% soy wax! This will not impact the performance of your candle.

Burn time

Make sure that you are able to burn your candle long enough to allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges, which is usually around 2 hours. This helps to make sure that you do not get a "tunneling" effect and that the candle burns down evenly.

DO NOT burn for longer than 4 hours at a time.

Space

Be mindful that certain sizes of candles are more fitting for different spaces when it comes to the amount of scent you smell. For example, our 8.5oz candles are more effective in smaller spaces, like an office or bedroom. Our multi-wick, 14oz candles will perform much better than those in a larger space, such as a living room.

Safety

Burn within sight. Keep away from flammable objects. Keep away from children and pets. Trim wick to 1/4" before lighting. Keep candle free of any foreign material, including matches and wick trimmings. Only burn the candle on a level, fire resistant surface. Do not burn candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Stop use when only 1/4" of wax remains.

Research

While I am happy to answer any questions that I can, it is always wise to do your own research to ensure that soy wax candles are right for you!

Soot

Are you getting a black substance around the top of your candle as you continue to burn it? This is called soot. Soot is a buildup of carbon particles due to incomplete combustion. This can happen if you are not trimming your wicks, burning your candle too long, or if you are burning your candle in a drafty location. Soot can be cleaned from your candle jar, but take caution in what products you use to clean the jar and ensure it is completely dry before burning your candle again.
